Web 2.0 -George Siemens

posted Tuesday, 10 June 2008

I took about four pages of notes while listening to Mr.

Siemens presentation about three weeks ago. Although

the presentation was quiet lenghty, and I had to listen to

some parts over ago. I really enjoy listening to it, and one

thing he said really stuck with me.

Mr.Simens said that no one person has to be responible

for knowing everything, as long as someone in their

network of friends knows. I was actually relieved to hear

this. I grew up learning from teachers, and my enviroment

feeling that I had to know or be able to make some

type of connection with most things said to me. If I could

not I felt as if I was not smart enough.

So I say what is learning?,and does it matter if a person

uses their circle of friends as a source for things that seem

unclear or to dense. I say no. As an adult I have used the

internet in my social network, so why can I not use people

instead without feeling that I am being lazy.

For the past three weeks, when a individual asks me a

question I am unsure about. I quickly say," I do not know,

but someone in my social network does." I feel relieved,

and realize that I created a diverse network of friends that

keeps growing.

My question to you is who is in your social network?

Jackie,

I too like Siemens's point on networking. He also mentioned that content should take a back seat to networking...I was uncertain how I felt about that at first, what I came to conclude is that both are extremly important. I also loved that you have been answering "someone in my social network does" I think that is great. My social network consists of lots of people, my wife, classmates and co-workers being the most important, then friends...but they don't know much (haha).
