The word Wow! was my orginal reaction to this students performance. He was able to capture the time period by his voice, and style of clothing. The student was in character. I was impressed. I had seen performances done in the past but I could really tell that this student put in alot of time in hard work into character development and understanding the time period. I thought to myself that this video was taken to next level, and could be used as a teaching resource, instead of a teacher teaching this lesson.
As an evaluation, I would use the following critera. Subject knowledge, Speech, dress, and a overall approval of whether or not I could watch it for more than 5 minutes.
I imagine Griffin had become and expert on Columbus, and that time period. He learned about the physical and cultural aspects of the time of Columbus. He also learned about acting, and having stage presence, and how he wanted to look of camera, and what he wanted his viewer to learn from his presentation.
Griffen was able to put the viewer right a scene. This showed alot of high level thinking, and processing. He also spoke for more than 7 minutes with a paper. So he was able to memorize and stay in character using the correct voice. I loved his voice the best.
I would definately use this film as a teaching tool for the future because it is quality. He accuratly presented the facts. So it could be used in the classroom. Also the video could be used as a teaching tool for others preparing to do the same thing. It helps to have a model of what you want your students to achieve.
Jackie, this is a great description of the video. I agree with most of
your points, and I love the idea of using the video to teach instead of the
teacher teaching or it can be used simultaneously with a teacher. I also
saw a very high level of thinking throughout the video. His ability to
talk about Columbus with great knowledge showed his mastery of the subject.
