Concept Map - Science

posted Wednesday, 21 May 2008

I am currently teaching a unit on in Science on the Life Science area in my fifth grade class that is focusing on Vascular Plants. My Concept map is a work in progress. I am still editing it to make sure it accurately represents the truth. Here is was I have so far.  The most difficult part in concept mapping is tring to figure out which map to use. However, I love that fact that you can make this online, print it, insert the map into blogs, powerpoints, ect. I plan to use this in the classroom, and possible print out blank one for my students use. The map created by students can be used for assessment, and inspiration during a course of study. Jackie,

I need you to work a little more on this assignment. You have posted a good jpg, but you have not really used the capabilities of the Inspiration program. Concept mapping is linking ideas together in a progression or to show a dynamic relationship, more so than displaying properties. Please look at the examples on our blog, and also here are more examples of Concept Maps.

This is also a dynamic resource that you would want to construct in front of your class, modeling the thinking as you make the various connections to ideas. Please email when you have made the adjustments. Thanks.

Jackie, I too would have liked to see something that pertains to YOU more then to the class your teaching. I think if you used your personal philosophy of education you might be able to attack this assignment easier.
